So far, KAIROS could form 678 SHGs in the villages in which 66 are men SHGs and 612 are women SHGs. These are self managed groups of rural people. The role of KAIROS is facilitator. SHGs are doing micro savings and thrift programmes, income generation programmes, programmes of public interest, various activities in the areas of environment, health, hygiene, sanitation etc. SHGs have association with Panchayathi Raj Institutions, banks and other kinds of peoples organsiations in making development. SHGs are federated at village level under village development councils. 65 such federations are in functioning. The main role of VDCs are co-ordinating and monitoring the activities of SHGs and make arrangements for capacity building of SHGs. A participatory study and analysis process in the areas of agriculture, basic infrastructural development, women enpowerment, health, sanitation, education, employment etc. by participating the representatives of the Self Help Groups and mahilasamajams was conducted by KAIROS to prepare the SPED project. We have 5 schemes namely Housing, Welfare, IGP, Marriage and Education. People are free to opt one or more schemes according to their prioritized need. Schemes are receiving equated monthly amount from the members and are giving loan. We have 35 such scheme units.
