Manappuram Foundation Provided a Four-Wheeler to Support Differently-Abled Entrepreneur who is a beneficiary of KAIROS

Manappuram Foundation, in collaboration with KAIROS Kannur, has launched a significant initiative to empower differently-abled individuals by providing them with four-wheelers free of cost for self-employment. The program was officially inaugurated by Kairos Kannur Director Fr. George Chempakaseril As part of the launch event, Apostol Rani Parish Vicar Fr. Jose V.C. ceremonially handed over the keys of a vehicle to Sree Joseph, a member of the Apostol Rani Parish. Kanhangad Regional Coordinator Bincy Shaju, along with Sunil Joseph and Nita Gilbert, also addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of inclusive development and sustainable livelihood opportunities. This initiative reflects a continued commitment to social responsibility and the empowerment of marginalized communities through meaningful support and resources.

Women on Wheels

Under the leadership of Kannur Kairos, two-wheelers were distributed to 31 women under the leadership of Kannur Kairos as part of the Women on Wheels project which is being implemented with 50% subsidy through NGO Confederation. In the program held on Saturday 28.09.24 at 2.30 pm at Pallikulam Honda Showroom, Kairos Director Rev. Fr. George Mathew presided. The Honorable Minister of Antiquities Registration Department Mr. Ramachandran Kadanapalli inaugurated the event. Chirakal Gram Panchayat President, Mrs. Shruti P and Vice President Anil Kumar gave their greetings. NGO Confederation Kannur District Secretary Shri Baiju welcomed everyone. Honda showroom workers and Kairos workers led the program.

May Day Celebration by the Diocese of Kannur

The Diocese of Kannur organized a May Day celebration and workers' meeting under the leadership of the Kerala Labor Movement (KLM) and Kairos Kannur. The event was held at St. Joseph's College Auditorium, Pilathara, and was inaugurated by Mr. Rajmohan Unnithan, Member of Parliament for the Kasaragod Constituency. The May Day message was delivered by the Bishop of Kannur, Most Rev. Dr. Alex Vadakkumthala. KLM Kannur President Mr. Peter Kolakad also graced the occasion. Speeches were given by Kairos Director Fr. George Mathew and KLM Kannur Secretary Ms. Gracy Boniface. KLM State Director Rev. Fr. Arun Valiyathazhathu provided an overview of the various welfare schemes offered by KLM. Reverend Father Alex honored Mr. Lawrence Chettan, a veteran labor leader who has been working tirelessly for construction workers since 1961, with a memento in recognition of his service. The program was led by members of the KLM Diocesan Unit and the Kairos staff.

Breast Cancer Awareness Camp on 19th Oct 2024 at St. Antonys UP School Thayyil.

As part of the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kairos Kannur and Malabar Cancer Care Society organized along with Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. Under the leadership of BSW students, a breast cancer awareness class was conducted at St. Anthony's UP School on Saturday at 4 pm. Kairos Director Rev. Father George Mathew presided over the function which was inaugurated by Parish Priest Rev. Father Martin Rayappan, Kairos Community Organizer, Tayil. Shri PJ Jacob, founder of Jacob and George Chartered Accountants was the chief guest of the event. Founder and President of Malabar Cancer Care Society Shri D. Krishnanadha Pai delivered the keynote address. Dr. Harsha Gangadharan, Medical Officer of MCCS, conducted the class. Graduate student Kumari Alana Paul gave the welcome address. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by student Kumari Nehla OF.

Partnership with 4th wave Foundation

On October 5, 2024, KAIROS Kannur, in collaboration with the Fourth Wave Foundation, Ernakulam, launched the VENDA project, which addresses substance abuse among children. The event took place at the KAIROS Training Hall in Burnacherry, drawing around 28 mothers who are eager to learn and contribute. Rev. Fr. Joy Paynadith, Forane Vicar of Kannur, inaugurated the project, highlighting its importance in today's society. He provided an insightful introduction to the VENDA initiative, emphasizing the critical need for community engagement in tackling substance abuse. The program featured classes led by members of the VENDA team, including Mrs. Manju David and Mr. Mohamed Riyas, who shared valuable strategies for prevention and support. Mr. K.V. Chandran offered his congratulations, underscoring the positive impact of the initiative. Mrs. Jessy Reji welcomed attendees, setting a warm tone for the gathering, while Mrs. Jincy CH, the regional coordinator of KAIROS, expressed gratitude to everyone involved. The event also saw participation from KAIROS staff and internship students from Rajagiri College in Ernakulam and Karunya College in Coimbatore, enriching the atmosphere with diverse perspectives. Overall, the inauguration marked a significant step towards empowering mothers and fostering peaceful solutions to challenges faced by youth in vulnerable situations.

Encyclical Letter of Pope Francis - Distributing of fruit trees under the leadership of Kairos on 18th June 2024 marking the path to Zero- carbon Neutral Parishes in the Kannur Diocese

As part of creating a green church culture under the leadership of Kairos, fruit tree saplings were distributed to all the parishes under Kannur Diocese. Kannur Bishop Dr. Alex Vadakumthala inaugurated the even with lighting of the lamp. He said that environmental spirituality is the need of the day and not to exploit or worship nature, but to create a lifestyle with nature. Msngr.Dr. Clarence Paliath presided over the event. Kannur Diocese Procurator Fr. George Painadath addressed the gathering with his welcome speech. Principal of Alphonse College, Kozhikode, Dr. K. P. Chacko Kalaparamabil was the chief guest of the day. He took a class on Environment and the importance of saving Mother nature and covered various aspects such as biodiversity, climate change, pollution, sustainable practices and safeguarding the forest by planting the right trees that are required for the survival of animals. The Director of KAIROS, Fr. Gerorge Mathew organized the event on behalf of the dioceses and a note of thanks was delivered by K.V. Chandran the General Co. Ordinator of KAIROS.

Silver Jubilee Housing Project

KAIROS (Kannur Association for Integrated Rural Organization and Support)Kannur in its Silver Jubilee year. Our dream is to celebrate this Silver Jubilee by constructing 25 houses for homeless people. We have succeeded in constructing 6 houses in Poovam Parish of Taliparamba Region. After completing these 6 houses shall be handed over to the most deserving families. The estimate cost per house is Rs. 15 lakhs and the total project cost is Rs. 90,00,000/- (Ninety Lakhs). The construction site of 30 cents land was donated by a well-wisher of KAIROS, Dr. Mathew of Kodaikkanal To make good of the number, we have supported 19 beneficiaries who are struggling to complete their houses, even after getting support through LIFE Project of State govt. and other assistances. The construction support comes to Rs. 28,45,000/- (twenty eightlakhs fourty five thousand only). We express our sincere thanks to our Bishop Most. Rev. Dr. Al;ex Vadakkumthala, for the guidance and support to this project. We extend our sincere thanks to Rev. Dr. Jilson Panakkal Our former Director, Ursuline Amala Province, Deena Sevana Sabha Generalate, Dr. Hilda from Ernakulam, , Dr. Mathew of Kodaikkanal for generously supporting this project. We are thankful to the prayerss of our well-wishers and our community for completion of the first phase of the project.

School Kit Distribution

On 25th May 2024, KAIROS Kannur in association with National NGO Confederation and Social Bee Ventures had the Inauguration of the school kit distribution at 2.30 pm at KAIROS training hall. The inauguration and the distribution of the kit was done by Adv. Binoy Kurian,Vice President Kannur Jilla Panchayath, in the function presided over by Rev. Fr. George Painadath, Procurator Bishop’s House Kannur. Felicitation was given by Sr. Archana, Principal of Ursuline HSS Payyambalam and Mrs. Latha K, staff CDNP+ Kannur. Mr. K V Chandran, General Coordinator KAIROS delivered the welcome speech and Mrs Jincy CH, Regional Coordinator KAIROS expressed vote of thanks. We distributed 110 school kits worth Rs. 2000/- (beneficiary share Rs. 1000/- + NGO Confederation share Rs. 1000/-). Besides this, necessary note books were distributed to 30 students of HIV/Aids affected families, which was sponsored by Ursuline Sisters Payyambalam.
